A lot of Americans (especially Californians) were quite disgusted by Schwarzenegger's decision because Stanley "Tookie" Williams was viewed as having made serious efforts to redeem himself while serving on death row. It's a controversial topic because Williams' conversion doesn't alter the fact of his crimes. Still, commuting the death sentence of an old man who'd tried to make amends on some level to a sentence of life in prison did not strike me as unreasonable or "soft." And I happen to support the death penalty, unlike many friends of mine. It was a difficult and controversial case poorly decided by a joke of an actor and even worse politician who will NOT win re-election, period.

   Did this get a lot of coverage in Australia or something? I'm just curious as to why you ask this so many months after the fact.

3. Arnold is a public figure. That can not be taken into effect to pardon death row inmates. He is a governor first, before being an actor. Should every death row inmate take advantage of the governors pardon powers
