16 Years Old, 160 Pounds, Tips for Weight Loss?

I'm 16 years old, female, about 5' 1" - 5' 3" and weight about 160lbs. I'm looking into losing about 30 pounds but I'm not in any hurry to do so. I know about intaking calories to burn fat, etc. Are there any tips that people can give me to make this easier on myself? I do crunches, about 100, and leg lifts, about 50, every night. I also do about 30 pushups just to build muscle in my arms since I lack that. Besides losing 160 pounds, I need a bit of "toning" on my body.

  1. So any tips, hints, whatever that can help me?
  2. exercise and eat right.
  3. I'm going to be running twice a week; maybe that will also help clear my mind :)
  4. Above all, eat! Don't use diet pills, and forget those weight loss centers. Drink 8 glasses of water a day, eat fruits and vegetables, and simply cutting your fat intake will make all the difference in the world. When it comes to munchies and treats, I go to my local health food store. Refined sugar will give you extra unneeded calories. Avoid anything with caffeine. That will kick your nervous system into high gear and you will eat more. DO allow yourself a treat once in a while and don't feel guilty about it. Eating more whole grains will get you fuller on less food. Beans and lentils are a great source of protein with no fat.
  5. Hi there
You've got the right idea about losing the weight SLOWLY - very sensible.

Aim for 3-5 sessions per week - a mix of cardio/strength/stretching in each 60 min (approx) session.
You may find as you lose weight, around week 6/7, you reach what's called a plateau, I.e. it will get harder to lose weight, because your body has adapted to your exercise routine.

Time to increase either the intensity OR frequency OR duration of your workout sessions -

    Good luck!

  6. I would look at what you eat everyday. I would try to cut down the junkfood and try eating healthier. Fruit for a snack can be a good idea. I am not saying become a health food nut, but mix it up.

You have the right frame of mind of not trying to drop weight in a hurry.

  7. *Not lose 160lbs, to lost 30lbs
  8. Sweat, do lots of cardio and sweat. Burn lots more cals when dripping with perspiration. For toning I would do resistance toning. Good Luck.
  9. Exercise everyday like jogging around the block
Skip meals. Eat 2 times per day than 3 times per day
    Dont eat until you're full
Eat fruits at night if your hungry.
Drinks lots of water and stop all the fast food and chocolate.
There are more tips and info.
there's a video on success fitness too.
  10. What you're doing is great, but you need to work in some cardio to burn the fat. All the toning (which is what you're doing) won't make you lean unless you get rid of the excess weight.

I don't know where you live, but it's getting warmer out - perfect timing to get out and take a 30 minute walk/jog once a day. Throw in those toning exercises and you're set.

Plus, watch the intake versus the output. You can track both and compare/contrast - for FREE - on FitDay.com. It's an easy site to maneuver and it tracks progress very well.

Also, and most importantly, figure out what got you to the weight you're at now - stress, poor eating habits, etc. You need to resolve those almost before you tackle the above. It will help you keep the weight off.

    Good luck!

  11. make sure u eat only about 2000 calories a day… eat small meals through the day… drink lots of water (no fat, calories or sugar) and do something liek yoga… it works for me
  12. Put down the fork! Just kidding! Someone told me that recently, I'm 5'4 at 145 and trying to lose weight also. Jogging I heard melts fat. I have the Billy Blanks bootcamp DVDs and those are a great workout! Get moving and eat better, eat lots of fruit and drink lots of water. Your weight may not get to exactly what you want it's more about how you feel and look. Remember muscle weighs more than fat. When doing sit ups keep your chin to your chest. Good luck!
  13. Try running a mile 3 times a week. It will remember burn fat off.
