Too Skinny?

I'm a 13 year old girl, 5' 1", 95 pounds, 22 inch waist and 32 inch hips. It's nearing the end of track season now (I'm a long/middle distance track runner and a cross country runner), and I never noticed how skinny I was before. I'm starting to run 30 miles a week in order to build my base for XC season in the fall, and I've got a resting heart rate of 48 bpm.

  1. I was just wondering whether I'm too skinny to be healthy, I feel perfectly fine all the time, but I have a stomach like one of those female body builders with 2% body fat on steroids…help?
  2. Can't you get your body fat percentage tested to find out if your body fat levels are too low? I'm sure if you speak to your doctor about getting it tested, they would be happy to help you.

    I understand that you being athletic means you will most likely have a lower body fat than the average girl your age, but being only 95lb, most of which is probably muscle, it is a bit concerning.

    Definitely speak to your doctor about your concerns. If your body fat is less than 14%-16%, I would seriously consider gaining some fat or you could end up damaging your health in the long term.

  3. Please, please see your family doctor if you are really this concerned. Your health is extremely important and you don't want to sacrifice it at such a young age!
