Why is there still today in 2007 sexism in the sport of female bodybuilding?
- I was just wandering, in a world of supposed equality, why do women who are or want to be big and muscular looked on as freaks by some people when men who are bodybuilders are tended to be thought of as admired for their motivation?
- women with no breasts with small coks and muscles.
Men are not jealous of that because thats what most of them look like anyway.
- well …ever since the beginning of the world or civilization at least women were cute and feminine so man would go gather food and stuff and from there we grew we got this stereo type that men go get food and must be strong to protect women and women are weak that how it was 3000 years ago and before that ..now I'm the modern world were women can live and get food without men came the right of equality cause they dont need men anymore but the thing is we were used to women been weak for 3000years that it may take a while to get used to them strong and independent
- Is this simply a 'what we feel men should be and what we feel women should be' scenario as it regards stereotypes we attach to each gender individually? Just because in the publics eyes a girl steps out of her 'stereotype' of being into girly things by having muscles,is this the sole reason they get negatively judged?
- I have no problem if they want to bodybuild. after all, they have their lives, we have ours…who are we to say what others should do and shouldn't do?
if women want to masculine, then let them. men are allowed to be feminine, e.g. gay, etc., so I say let them be masculine if they want. - In a world where now gay couples can marry, women are given more respect in terms of equality in maybe a predominantly male job field (politics for example) surely in 2007 people can see women have the right to be muscular if they so choose without the fear of being judged?
- What are your views?
- Okay not saying some men don't look 'too big' aswell but they are more often than not accepted into the world of bodybuilding simply due to their gender, whereas women are told they either look 'gross' or are said to be 'too manly'!
- I'm not sure its worth putting my views on here as everyone just gives best answer for whoever agrees with them like you will but as you have asked nicely… I will answer.
Ive been going to the gym for 17 years and have a good shape etc… mot of a van dam shape than an Arni shape as I think that is too much…. but does that make me a jealous man because of that view? No, I just think its too much.
As for the women doing it I dont find it one bit attractive when a woman is massive weather its muscles or fat…. I dont go for tall woman either but does that make me jealous of taller people? no… its just not my bag.
Men who are too big I think have gone too far and look a bit freaky and because woman do look more butch then of course if I like a feminine woman then I'm going to think it looks shite…. Dont get the jealousy views confused with just not everyones taste.
EDIT…. Your getting the equality stuff confused with the "its not someones taste in women"…. I dont give a shite if a woman wants to do it but it does not make me wrong in not fancying someone who does…. same as it does not make it wrong if you dont fancy someone is 85 stone and has three eyes.
- I'm not overkeen on the muscular looking women, I don't mind if they are toned looking, but ideally big muscles really do belong on a male.
My question to you, why do women want to have big muscles? what is the attraction behind it?
- Because they look disgusting! Simple as that. The guys look pretty sick too don't get me wrong, but for a girl to want to make her body like that I think would need psychological help!
- For the guys who hate it is it a jealousy issue resulting in a deflated ego if a girl is bigger than them or is it just because that girl is not fitting the typical female stereotypes?
- because they normally resemble men
