Am I (a 17 year old male) losing weight the right way?
Hey guys, I've lost 30 lbs in the past four months. I did it by drastically cutting my calorie and fat intake. I ate a fraction of what I used to eat, and I'm guessing that I lived off 600 calories or less on any given weekday. I also worked out for an hour and a half every weekday. But I did treat myself to some restaurant Thai food/ 12" steak and cheese sandwiches on the weekends. But I often have horrendous cravings during the weekdays for a Subway sandwich. SO HERE IS MY QUESTION: AM I LOSING WEIGHT/BUILDING MUSCLE THE RIGHT WAY OR AM I STARVING MYSELF?
- P.S: I'm now trying to build a six pack/runner's body… should I start eating more energy laden foods (give examples please! I'm clueless
- I currently weight 150 lbs. 17 years old. South East Asian Male.
- Starving yourself is NOT the way to go. You need to to eat to fuel your body. When your body goes into starvation mode, it starts to hang on to every calorie you consume. Also, by drastically cutting your caloric intake, your body is going to start consuming muscle for fuel.
You should be concentrating on eating healthy (1/2 plate is veggies/fruit, 1/4 starchy carb (bread, pasta, rice, potato) and 1/4 protien (chicken, fish, lean beef).
Also, if you want a runner's body, you have to run. Weight training is also important for your physique and bones.
- Without knowing your total caloric intake, it's difficult to say if you are starving yourself. As for losing the weight in a fair amount of time and your routine, as long as you are not reaching total fatigue throughout the day, you are doing fine. And eating Thai and subways is not bad for you on occasions. Hell, go for a pizza once in awhile. Once again, depending on your total calories consumed, your program looks good.
