Eating and exercising correctly to build upper body muscle?

I'm a 19 year old male. I'm only 145 lbs. and I have a lot of muscle in my lower body from sports, however I wish my upper body would compensate. I've lifted consistently over this past summer, but didn't see any change. I realized I probably wasn't eating the correct things to build muscle off of. I'm wondering if there is anyone out there who knows what I have to eat most of and avoid eating so when I lift I will see improvement.

  1. hey I know I'm a girl but I have a brother that is 18 and he is in to the whole getting bigger and lifting everyday and he used to be about your weight a year ago and now he is about 160 what he does is he drinks protein shakes everyday and gets as much protein as possible tuna is a good protien source but his problem was getting bigger up top to he just atarted eating alot of protien and going to the gym everyday but dont work your upper body everyday switch from your lower to upper but I hope this helps oh and in your question you say youlifted all last summer dont just lift in the summer or what im trying to say is dont give up on getting bigger keep going you will get there.
  2. Try this link, it has secrets of bodybuilders that might help you:

  3. You might be working out too much. The body needs to rest at least 24 -48 hrs. to release all the toxin build-up.
  4. There are a couple of things to look at here. First, you need to work on the Progressive Overload weight lifting principle. This says that you need to slowly increase the amount of weights each week that you lift. This puts more of a demand on your muscles and forces more muscles to be recruited to adapt to the resistance imposed upon them. Secondly, you need to increase your caloric intake by 500 calories each day to help build more body mass. To ensure this mass is lean, you need to make sure you consume lean proteins, carbs, and keep your fat intake to only 20-30% of your total calories. Hope this helps and good luck. . .
  5. dude…eat a lot of oatmeal, rice, potatoe, steamed greens(brocolli),beef, chicken and fish…check out bodybuilding.com they have everthing about anything..after you get perfect diet..what about your training…training may be just as important or more than diet…there are so many different ways of working out to build muscle..again check out bodybuilding.com and/or nutrexresearch.com and order a free catalog with tips, diet and training program…then think about supplementing?–creatine-whey protein–there so many products to choose from but go toward muscletech and bsn products….good luck
