How much protein should I be taking in at 15 yrs old, 160 lbs, 5' 10''?

I've read a LOT of discussion about protein intake.

  1. I've been trying to take in 160 grams of protein, but it's not easy…
  2. That sound like a good amount of protein. From what I've heard its good to eat 1-2 grams of protein per pound that you weigh if your trying to gain weight/build muscle. Also if you cant get enough protein from your regular diet try drinking protein shakes which will give you lots of protein.

And no your not starting too early.

  3. BOTTOME LINE: What the heck am I supposed to be taking in for protein?
  4. I want to build muscle…am I starting too early (I wouldn't think so becuase there's kids in my grade who are probably close to twice my size…and they're the same age).
  5. I've heard a lot on the excertion principle where your body rids itself of the protein anyways, and I don't want to waste my time and money, along with my calories in taking in a bunch of protein foods.
  6. Don't work out 3 times a day your muscles will more then likely get smaller because your over doing it. And if im right there be feeding off thereself to grow so there probally stay the same or get smaller.

Split your workout in half and do half one day half the other and eat plenty of fish and rice. Also theres a protein powder called meso-tech which you can mix into milk and throw some fruit in there for a milkshake it contains around 45grams of protein and like 830g calcium. Finally drink around 5-6 glasses of COLD water a day your body must use calories to heat up the water and pass it on so this will be good for burning a few of the protein calories.

Don't eat stuff like cake, chocolate or other sweets because they give you flab.

  7. I have 3 months before school starts again, and I want people to be amazed when I come back. Since I work out 3x a day, that's 36 workouts to build a lot of muscle.
  8. I am taking that as a typo as to work out 3x a day to 3x a week. answer to your question: eat every 2 to 3 hours a day. you are taking in enought protein to gain muscle. if you want optimum than it should be 1.5 to 2 grams of protein per body pound. if you are eating every 2 to 3 hours and still find it hard than take protein shakes. they will give you atleast 40 grams of quality protein. check out theses sites as well for more on nutrition:
  9. One gram per pound of weight is about the standard. That'll keep you in a muscle gaining state. You're right anything more is just excess. I am concerned about the frequency of your workouts though. 3x a day is definitely excessive. You'll soon succumb to overtraining. You're body needs time to recover and rebuild after the havoc you unleash on your muscles. So less frequent workouts and plenty of protein and you'll be on your way.
  10. I'm a 15 year old male, 5' 10'' 160 pounds.
