How much whey protein should I take?
Hey everyone. Ive been working out for about a month now, I weigh about 170 pounds, 21 yo/male, and height at about 5'9'' 1/2. I was wondering for everyone with body building, nutritional, and diet knowledge as to how much whey protein I should take. The 100% Whey Proteign Gold Standard product came highly reccommended so I purchased a 5.5lb tub of it. Does anyone now how many scoops of it I should put in, and what would you reccommend me to mix it in: Soy Milk? Water? Fruit Smoothie? Thanks =)
- Look at the label on the container. It should tell you how many grams of protein are in one serving and how many scoops make up one serving. Most of your protein should come from real food…chicken, beef, eggs, cheese. Remember, protein powder is a supplement.
You should try to eat about 1 gram of protein for every 1 lb of body weight. This seems to be the general rule of thumb. I have also read that no more than 30 grams of protein should be consumed in one meal.
You can mix it with whatever you like…I have found that COW'S milk makes protein taste a little better than water. If the choice is between soy milk or water…go with water. I have a protein shake with 1 or 2 raw eggs immediately when I wake up and as soon as I get back from working out. I have tried 3 or 4 protein shakes during the day but I ended up on the toilet and it wasn't fun.
- If YOu have been working out for a month that is great, keep it up… When bodybuilding each day you should eat 0.73 grams per pound. So for you, you would have to eat 125 grams of protein and if you thunk you need more then go more but dont over due it.. Yeah whey protein is great for men but for women should have soy protein. From exprence I ate alot of different food with protein in it. One hint Dont mix protein with protein I have done that it taste nasty.. Smothies are great to put in protein because you get your fruits and proteins… Oatmeal is great with protein, pancake mix is good with it and any type of mix muffin mix or cake mix it great. Any type of milk or water is great to mix it in.
- Years of body building and weight lifting.
- First of all 100% Whey protein is generally used for pre and post workout, because it absorbs very quickly. If you are just starting to workout then you need a multisorce protein. One which is fast and slow releasing so you can use it at anytime of the day. Multi-dosing with protein regularly prevents catabloicism of the lean muscle tissue. Using your stats: (Weighing 170 lbs and if you have 20% body fat your lean body mass should be 136lbs, you should consume about 136gms of protein regularly.) PS the brand you got not a high quality protein.
