Protein Intake?
Most bodybuilding/Mens health magazines (who are now all owned by supplement companies) state that as a general rule, a male needs 1-2 grams of protein per pound of body weight. How true do people think this is? That's a hell of a lot of protein (makes supplementing very necessary, I would need 185 grams), and if it is true, how were people jacked before protein supplements were available?
- Its pretty true. a quick look around the internet, or in books that arent owned by the supp companies, state this too. It doesnt make it necessary to supp with it, but it is helpful
the people who were jacked before did what you should be doing, eating 6-8 times a day with a high calorie meal each time over 400 per meal, and getting 30-50 grams of protein each meal. just eat alot of tuna, chicken or beef
- The first two answers above are very true. And protein synthesis has been identified as the primarily healthy form of gaining lean muscle mass, when combined with proper exercise and water consumption. If you are trying to do the same, be sure you drink plenty of water with all of that protein so you don't jack up your liver while jacking your muscles! Good luck… oh yeah…check with your doctor before drastically changing your diet and/or exercise regimen.
- they were stacked cause they ate meat all damn day long, I dont have the time or money to eat 20 T bone steaks a day, and they were not even half as big as guys get now, and the gains they saw were slow. You can get on a BSN stack program and gain (for a 185lbs guy) 20-30 pounds in a 12 week program. That wasnt possible back then.
- You only need protein supplement if you are concerned with being very lean. If you are not afraid of a few extra calories you can get plenty enough protein through regular food.
