Trying to lose wieght, build and tone muscle…protein intake?

Weight: about 320 pounds.—Was 330 lbs.

  1. Sex: Male
  2. Besides eating at Chiptole 1x a week I go out to a randomly place like Chilies or something and get chicken quesadillas or something like that. Sometimes a salad, with light dressing.
  3. My advice is to lower your protein intake. It is a common myth that weight lifters believe they need as much protein as they can get. Not entirely true, increasing protein needs for weight lifting is good, but there is no need to go over board. Most Americans obtain enough protein in their everyday dieting. A gram of protein per pound is too high. Also, another note to factor in is that protein carries 4 calories per gram and can add up if you are getting too much in your diet. BE CAREFUL though, if you have any problems with your kidneys, extra protein will work them even harder (seek a physician if you having trouble with your kidneys!) As for your diet, you seem to be doing well. Make sure you are getting your fair share of vegetables and creating a variety of meals (so you do not get burned out on any certain food). If you are drinking some of those protein shakes or anything other than water, look at the label to keep track of your calories. Start a food diary, it sounds petty but will help you on your everyday monitoring of your exact calorie intake more or less. Some things to consider: age, genetics, and any health conditions you may have that will affect your metabolism and how you burn calories. Please, do not hesitate to go see a dietitian if you are questioning your diet practises. Good luck on achieving your goals.
  4. Height: 6 foot 1 inches.
  5. Great post! I totally understand how you feel. I'm also trying to lose weight and I found this great product which is working for me. You can check the website at
http://www.hyperl.info , I had a free trial and paid less than 7.00$ shipping and handling. Best of luck!
  6. I also haven't been to a fast food place in over a year….
  7. Im glad ur realizing what you need to do. 34% is certainly toward obese- at ur height, the achievable ideal u shud be shooting for is less than 25% at least.

Fire your trainer. 300 grams of protein is not only outrageous, it'll probably shut down your liver in a few years. Unless ur in training for the next Mr.Olympia, stick with around 80-100 grams max. Even that can be tough.

Your regimen, provided you're being truthful with yourself, is very good. Ur dietary regimen is on the right track- higher protein (50% of calories), low carb (15% of calories), high fiber, moderate good fats (35% of calories). To lose weight, you might simply have to eat less food. Also, remember, losing weight does take time. Maybe u shud just set a more realistic time goal for yourself.

  8. I go to the gym 3-5 times a week. 3x times a week I do 30 mins of intense weight training and 15 min of cardio (eliptical). And the other 2 days I do 45 min of cardio (eliptical).
  9. Age: almost 23
I have been heavy since I was 5. I DO have a large frame tho.
  10. However, my trainer says and I agree that my fat loss should be going faster. He says that I need to change my diet since I should be losing more weight. He told me to eat 250-300 grams of protein a day, is that healthy? Keep in mind, to fulfill this I am eating mostly grilled chicken, sliced turkey, and ground turkey. Also taking protein powders with under 3g of carbs and .5 grams of sat fat, containing 50g of protein. I do not eat fried food, ribs, burgers, or pizza. I may have 1 of these items every 2-3 months. I eat Chiptole 1x a week.
  11. I have been told "1 gram of protein for every pound that you weigh, every day." before, but for my weight and body fat percentage, shouldn't it be different?
  12. Body Fat Percentage: about 34%—-Was 38.7%
  13. I have been working with a personal trainer for 6 months and have seen some great results, but not on the scale, just see less fat on my body.
  14. 1 gram of protein for every pound that you weigh, every day.
