If you read the entire Bible as a story and don't just pick out passages here and there to either enforce or debunk a particular theology, you can see that it's the story of God and his creation learning to live together. Yes, God learns about how to react to his people just as they learn how to respond to him.

   Take the story of the flood, for instance. God repents of something he did (creating mankind), so he wipes them out. Immediately after, he realises that may not have been the best idea, and he promises never to do it again.

   Throughout much of what Christians call the Old Testament, God gives laws to help his people live in communion with him and with each other. It's the story of how the law doesn't work, and God uses many methods to call his people back to him. (I think if you read further, you'd find examples of many people who broke the capital laws you mentioned who were not put to death.)

   When in Jesus God became human himself, he gained a much better understanding of the human condition, and he called his people back to God in a way that fulfilled the law and introduced grace into the equation. As in the OT, some of his people responded faithfully, and some did not. Those who did brought Christ's message to the rest of the world.

   So the God of the OT is not evil and replaced by a merciful God suddenly in the NT. Throughout the story, the way God interacts with his people changes as they learn about him and he learns about them.

11. The OT and NT were written in different centuries by different people with different views. If there are new authors, things are bound to change.

14. Im not Christian or Catholic or any of those, so I really don't know it all. Although I have read the bible many times.

    It seems to me the Old and New Testements of the bible are from two completely different times.

    There are two ways of looking at it:

    1) God at the end of the Old Testement, had a revalation of his/her/its own and realized that it was best to stop interfering and to allow Humans there own freedom of choice.

    2) God never changes, but Jesus takes over and has a little more forgiving atitude.

    Who knows for sure.

    PS this only matters to people who believe in God/Jesus/Holy Spirit.

15. god never changed. man spoiled the image of God and he sent Jesus to set the record straight. the only thing I read in the old testament is the ten commandments, they are a good guide line for life be you believer or non-believer. the only thing I read in the new testament are the words of Christ. I have read much of the other parts, but the words of Christ are all I take to heart. … and you know the far religious right is doing it again,SPOILING THE IMAGE OF GOD!!! they are demons.
16. Surprising to me is that you put so much effort into bible verses and pulled nothing from it. The concept of an eye for and I was the teaching . We should rightfully be punished for the same acts today that is how astray we have gone. God shows what the real deal was in a torturous world. Peace and Mercy with Jesus today, thank God.

18. No man in the old testament brought that upon his self. However, God gave us Jesus to help wash away our sins in the new testament. Yet we can still be punished or killed in a car accident, hit by a car, etc and God could call us home just like in the old testament.
