What really works to get body in shape?

There has been numereous books and articles with conflicting ideas on diets and body building techniques. Some suggest high-intensity workout while others stick with traditional multiple-rep low intensity. Then there is high protien vs. high carbohydrate diet.

  1. Is there a common knowledge out there that suggest an optimum strategy that always work? My new year resolution is to get in shape( would be great if I can get those abs shown on that wall poster). Any advice for the 37 year old male?
  2. exercise and a good diet really helps to get your body in shape
  3. Run and eat well - lots of fish, grilled chicken, eggs.

Also, if desired, do weight training. It doesn't even need to be that intense, just getting your muscles worked will help you both feel and see a change after only a few months.

  4. I KNOW YOU DON'T WONT TO HEAR THIS BUT HERE GOES.. START SLOW BY WALKING ONE MILE A DAY FOR ONE WEEK. THEN INCREASE TO TWO MILES A DAY FOR ONE WEEK. THEN START DOING EXERCISE THREE DAYS A WEEK AS YOU WALK DAYLE AS TO BUILD UP YOUR STAMINA DRINK ONE GLASS OF GRAPEFRUIT JUICE AT NIGHT TO EAT UP THE FAT AS YOU SLEEP.
  5. Weight Watchers has the best overall record for losing weight

    Start slow

  6. high protien diets just lose water weight, and carb diets don't work well because they make u hungryer faster, all's u can do is cut back, but low glymic diets help( basically flow the rules a deitbetic would). Exercise u have to combine, for example walk and stretch four days a week and weight lift and walk three days a week.
  7. Doing long reps w/light weight builds endurance and tends you will end up with a "swimmer build". short reps with high weight builds larger muscles.

Give muscles at least 1 day of rest in between workouts.

My workout used to consist of 80 pushups 1x, 80 1x situps, and 25 pullups 1x. on M, W, and F. and then a cardio workout on tues and thurs. You can do it almost anywhere, so you have no excuse not work out. the position of your hands while doing pushups will work different areas (shoulders-narrow, back-wide, triceps-somewhere in between.). you can use different types of sittups to exercise different areas of your abs.

I don't know what type of physical condition you are in, but if you cant do the whole rep at once, stop and resume as soon as possible. If you can do the whole rep, you are probably in pretty good condition.

Make sure you eat carbs an hour before teh workout, and protien and carbs about 30 minutes after.

  8. Thank you and wish a great new year!
  9. workout and eating healthy.

  2. It all really depends on what kind results you looking for…

Most men over age 30 are looking to remove excess fat from their mid section and/or build their abs, chest and shoulders. All this can be done through aerobics, running, weightlifting and above all controlling your diet. It takes a lifestyle change and discipline but above all it can be done!

6 Small Meals Throughout the to Increase Your Metabolism:

    http://www.public.asu.edu/~ejmccar/6meal…

Eating small frequent meals throughout your day is the best way to go. It curbs hunger, increases your metabolism rate, which you burn calories, and you actually eat less calories in the long run.
Here is a diet plan you can follow to get you started:

Breakfast- boiled egg, whole wheat toast, fruit

snack- handful of almonds or other nuts

Lunch- turkey club sandwich, small salad, steamed broccoli

snack- low fat yogurt with fruit

dinner- skinless chicken breast, bean salad, brown rice

Depending on my workout in the afternoon. I may do some weight lifting in the evening. Remember: Ab Crunches is a daily routine, do as many as you can every night before bed. And your great eating habits is the key to reducing fat around your mid-section, ***there is no one to see the ab muscles regardless of how many crunches you do if you do not burn the fat around the abs****

I may have a 100% whey protein shake after a workout it does manage to curve my appetite sometimes. If I become hungry before heading to bed and I must consume something I rather it be a small cup of fruit, which I have standing by. If you have to eat at night … Remember: NO FAT! (What you eat reduces fat and How you excerxise burns fat) A great combo.

Keep variety in your healthy diet. When it comes to vegetables and fruit, which I had to reintroduce my self to many of them. I make sure I have variety of colors in my frig.

    Good Luck and Take Care.

  3. If you want to get into shape and you don't want some dumb gimmick, get into the swimming pool. It works your entire body all at once, it's fun, you get to check out hotties in their swimwear, and you stay cool in the summer.
  4. The best reference, in my opinion, for that is a book called the Abs Diet (which isn't really a diet, per se.) Basically, a program that works for me and my husband is 5 small meals a day, lots of vegetables, and lots of lean protiens (chicken, eggs, fish…)

For optimum results, you would do best to cut out the sugar and eat small meals. Throw in some protein shakes post-workout.

All in all, I'd really recommend you go to the library and grab the Abs Diet. It has great meal ideas that are very simple and very healthy. My husband and I go by its guidelines and we both have 6-packs now.

    Good luck!

  5. well, I just do a little training everyday you know and I just look on internet for fitness answers…

  6. If you want to get in shape then diet alone will do nothing. You need to do some sort of exercise, but the type that works best depends on the person. I find running and doing weights works really well.
  7. Thanks and have a great new year.
