Is it true that your body only absorbs 20% of the minerals you ingest in supplement form?

Cause I take Zinc, there is 15 mg in my centrum I take in the morning, and I take a 30 mg pill at night, I had read on a bodybuilding site that too much zinc ( 25 - 100 mg ) a day can be harmful, but another guy I talked to on here says he takes a 100 mg a day supplement becuase only 20 % is actually absorbed, so which is correct?

  1. From what I've been told by a Biophysicist…if the suppliment is in tablet or caplet form, not gel or capsule, the body runs the digestive process too fast for it to dissolve enough to absorb more than 40%. If your intestines are backed up with garbage and not eliminating properly that is even lower %. Powdered or liquid form are the best way to take a suppliment for absorption, capsule or gel is next. Tablets and caplets have added ingredients that hold them together making it harder to dissolve.
  2. Interesting, I have never heard that…

This website should be able to answer all your questions. I don't want to give you any misinformation, so I hope you check out the website. However, I do know that your body is only to absorb a certain amount of each mineral or vitamin, regardless of the source. Hope that helps. Take care.

  4. The body can't digest most of whats in processed pills ect anyway. It would be much better if you just ate more fruits and veggies.
