Is there a trade body to complain to if your letting agent is as much use as a chocolate teapot?
I live in an HMO. Someone entered my room without authorisation and my letting agent refuses to change the locks even though I've reported the incident to the police. The plumbing is totally inappropriate for the building and the only way to control the shower temperature is taking a screwdriver in with you (I was only told about this after making 12 phone calls for someone to come and fix it and am gradually passing the tip along). The lights blow on the stairs. When this issue was raised by someone who'd nearly tripped on the stairs, the response was "Well you're still walking aren't you?" The TV and phone points were highlighted as a selling point, but neither work and we've had to have things installed ourselves.
- Who can we complain to about this? Some of it is a lack of professionalism on the agent's part. Some is the landlord being a tightfisted bastard.
- Move out, they can't do anything if they take you to small claims court, they will be exposed for what they do. If they bad mouth you on your credit or tennant history, you can take them to court for being slum lords. Keep good records and take no less than 200 pictures to win in court.
- Hi, u can go to ur local council office or citizen advise bureau they should let u know how , bcz there is a health & safety departement in evry council.
- Only if they belong to it. If you're in the UK it is up to your local council to see that HMOs are safe.
