What is the best way for a seventeen year old guy to get in shape?
I'm 17, medium build (I guess)…um, 5'8 around 190 pounds. I look pretty average, like my body shape and all. However, I want to be very muscular and in-shape. I'm not going for bulky at all; just trim, toned, and defined. Any helpful tips for getting in shape? (Note: I play lots and sport and have a 60 pound punching bag).
- Years ago I was a fitness instructor for the Y and I always recommended weight lifting. It burns calories and builds muscle at the same time so the old rule that the more muscle you have the more calories you burn is pumped up. Shadow boxing for speed with your bag is a great exercise but watch your form carefully.
If you hate aerobics and running (I do!), try roller blading or something along those lines. Those sports you play are fantastic for building bodies (except maybe baseball.. LOL).
One tip I always gave guys and girls alike back then was to find a really hard driving piece of music about 2 1/2 to 3 minutes long and put it in your CD player (iPod?) and turn it up (don't damage your ears, buff and deaf both isn't what we're going for, heh heh). Do crunches for the entire length of the song at least twice a day. You'll have to take breaks during the song at first, but I guarantee this will do wonders for you after a few months. With a proper diet to keep the excess weight off, you'll have abs to die for! Honest! Also, practice abdominal exercise anytime you think of it. Here's how:
Your abs are not all just below your rib cage so, when you suck in your tummy, start by actively imagining the abs down by your crotch. First suck those in, then suck in the ones below your ribs. It's done kind of like a wave, first low abs, then high abs. You'll know you're doing it right if you feel your chest rise as you finish the exercise. Hold it for the count of five and let go. You can literally do this anywhere. Good luck!

- MY ADVICE IS YOU GO TO THE GYM EVERY DAY FOR AT LEAST ONE HOUR AND LIFT WEGHTS AND OTHER TECNIQUES TO GET THE UPER BODY IN SHAPE AND BEFORE YOU GO TO BED I WOULD RECOMMEND PUNCHING THE PUNCHINH BAG FOR AT LEAST 45 MINUTES. AND IF YOU WANT TO STAY BUILT PART OF DOING SO WOULD BE CHANGING YOUR EATING HABITS SUCH AS EATING WHOLE GRAINS IN THE MORNING ALONG WITH A QUICK CUP OF ORANGE JUICE AND FOR SNACKS I WOULD STICK WITH FRUITS AND VEGETABLES AS FOR LUNCH AND DINNER I THINK YOUR USUAL CHOICES WILL BE FINE AS LONG AS YOU EXERCISE AFTER WORDS.
- We'll I agree with the others who answered ur ? but I think the best thing u can eat is healthy foods,fruits,vegtables, foods thats say they are low in fat, and less junk food.
- just exercise daily and dont eat fatty foods…..look at nutrition facts before u eat things..if it is high in calories make sure u burn all the calories that u gained or it will turn into fat!!!!!
- work out, eat less… thats bout it.
